Himalaya Airlines, established in August 2014 is a Nepal- China joint venture, wherein Nepal holds 51.01% of equity capital of the company and Tibet Airlines holds 48.99%. Himalaya Airlines, a full service carrier, started its scheduled flight operations from May 31, 2016 flying directly to Doha, Qatar and later to Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 1 2016.

The airline welcomed its first new aircraft MSN 6626, Airbus 320-214, Nepal registration number 9N-ALM, on March 9, 2016. This aircraft carried the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. K. P. Oli, Madam Radhika Shakya and the delegation on an official visit to Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China on March 20, 2016. The aircraft flew as promotional flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka on April 12, 2016 and May 3, 2016, offering special round trip packages.

In the upcoming months of early 2017, Himalaya Airlines plans to connect to Kuala Lumpur, Yangon, Dammam and Delhi and in the later phase, Airlines aims to connect Nepal with China via Beijing, Lhasa and Chengdu.

Over the coming five years, the airline has a target of acquiring 15 Airbus 320 family aircrafts to connect Kathmandu with various new destinations in Asia and beyond. The Airlines will also introduce long haul wide body aircraft of A330 family in due course of time for the operation of direct flights to Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia, and America.
