Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China Joint Venture Airline, welcomed its second brand new Airbus 320-214 into its fleet, at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Nepal today at 11:04 am NST. The aircraft, with the registration number 9N-ALV, was welcomed by a ceremonial water cannon salute after it touched down, arriving from Hamburg, Germany.
Honorable Minister of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Jeeban Bahadur Shahi, graced the ceremony of welcoming the aircraft with Mr. Devnanda Upadhaya, General Manager of TIA, along with high level officials from CAAN. The much-anticipated arrival was witnessed by Himalaya Airlines’ Vice President- Administration, Vijay Shrestha, Vice President – Operations, Jatinderpal Singh Dhillon, and H9 senior management team.
Himalaya Airlines announces its most awaited second destination: Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka as the airline commences its passenger services on the to Colombo route with effect from October 1, 2016.
Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China Joint Venture Airline, successfully launched its inaugural scheduled flight to Doha, on May 31st 2016, with 158 passengers on board as part of effort to provide 500,000 Nepalese living and working in Qatar, a convenient route to and from their motherland. The inaugural flight flew from Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu at 2300 hours (Local Time) and touched down at Hamad International Airport, Doha at 0130 hours (Local Time).
Himalaya Airlines launched its first commercial flight with a direct flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka, the land of Jewels today. The flight was planned considering the special occasion of celebrating “New Year 2073”.
The Airlines had offered irresistible round trip fare for the passengers for this flight. The Airlines intends to help promote tourism between Nepal and Sri Lanka and enhance people-to-people contact between the two countries.
Carrying the passengers to Colombo, the new Airbus 320-214 took off from the Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu.
The program of launching the flight service was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Wu Chuntai, His Excellency Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. W. M. Senevirathna, His Excellency Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Mr. Cheng Yiru, Chairman of Tibet Airlines.
Himalaya Airlines carried out a proving flight on the Kathmandu/Delhi/Kathmandu sector with its first new Airbus 320-214, to demonstrate its preparedness for commercial operations. The new aircraft, with the Nepalese registration number 9N-ALM, demonstrated its competence to operate commercial flights in all aspects of airline operation.
According to CAAN Air Operator Certificate Requirements, which are as per International Civil Aviation Organization standards, the proving flight was conducted under the inspection of CAAN inspectors. ICAO inspectors also observed the flight proving flight.

Himalaya Airlines carried the Right Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. K.P. Oli, Madam Radhika Shakya and the delegation on an official to Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China. The flight was operated under the approval of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and concerned countries’ regulatory authorities for landings, take-offs, parking/housing and overflying.
Honorable Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mr. Kamal Thapa; Honorable Minister for Finance, Mr. Bishnu Prasad Paudel; Honorable Minister for Commerce, Mr. Deepak Bohara; Honorable Minister for Education, Mr. Giriraj Mani Pokharel, honorable parliamentarians, high government officials, media and business delegates accompanied the Right Honorable Prime Minister on the flight. His Excellency Ambassador, Mr. Wu Chun Tai and Madam Jiang Chun Yan also accompanied the Right Honorable Prime Minister in the journey. Mr. Ang Tshiring Sherpa, Board Chairman (an official business delegate) and Mr. Cheng Hui, President of Himalaya Airlines were also on board. On behalf of Himalaya Airlines, Mr. Vijay Shrestha Vice President - Administration bade farewell to the Right Honorable Prime Minister and the entourage.
Himalaya Airlines had earlier requested the Government of Nepal for conducting the gratis flights for the official visit of the Right Honorable Prime Minister to the People’s Republic of China. The flight was conducted as kindly consented by the Government of Nepal. Accordingly, all costs of the flight were borne by Himalaya Airlines.

The aircraft was delivered to Kathmandu from Chengdu, following the aircraft handover ceremony represented by Mr. Cheng Hui, President of the company. The ceremony was attended by President, Mr. Hui, Vice President- Administration, Mr. Vijay Shrestha, Vice President – Operations, Captain Jatinder Pal Singh Dhillon, and H9 welcome team.
